What’s The Worse That Can Happen?

Author: JIMENA L. GREYSON

Youth going on life-changing adventures can be a powerful and transformative experience. These adventures often involve stepping out of one’s comfort zone, exploring new places, meeting diverse people, and facing challenges that help to shape their identity and perspective on the world. Such adventures can take many forms, including traveling to foreign countries, embarking on wilderness expeditions, participating in volunteer or humanitarian work, or pursuing artistic or athletic endeavors.

The phrase “folly of youth” typically refers to the tendency of young people to engage in reckless or foolish behavior due to their lack of experience, maturity, or understanding of consequences. It suggests that youth often act impulsively or without fully considering the potential outcomes of their actions. This concept is rooted in the idea that as individuals mature and gain life experience, they become wiser and more prudent in their decision-making. The “folly of youth” is often associated with risk-taking behaviors such as experimenting with drugs or alcohol, engaging in dangerous activities, or making impulsive choices without fully considering the long-term effects.

However, it’s important to note that while youth may indeed be more prone to certain types of risky behavior, they also bring energy, creativity, and a fresh perspective to the table. Not all actions of young people should be dismissed as folly; rather, it’s about finding a balance between youthful exuberance and responsible decision-making.

Six friends who had recently graduated from Lincoln High School made the decision to drive to Mexico City from their bright home in the Bay Terraces neighborhood of San Diego. Twins Zara and Daria with their closest friend since kindergarten, Skylar, are joined by their other friends, Zachary and Christian—who are more like brothers than cousins—and a friend they met from middle school, Joshua.

Each friend has their own unique traits, different from everyone else, even the twins. But one thing is for sure, they are bonded by their friendship and are each respected for their own quirkiness, and when they are all together, it’s always a happy event. The book What’s the Worse that Can Happen? tells the adventures of the friends in their joyride. Find out if the challenges this road trip bring the end to their friendship or make them closer than ever before.

This book is available online and can be purchased at online bookstores.
